Microneedling Mesotherapy

Needling, or microneedling, is a minimally invasive treatment performed using a device equipped with microscopic needles. These tiny needles create controlled micro-injuries in the superficial layers of the skin, triggering the release of growth factors that promote collagen and elastin production, skin cell proliferation, and the formation of new capillaries—without causing scarring. Through this process of neoangiogenesis and neocollagenesis, the epidermis is remodeled, superficial wrinkles are reduced, the skin becomes firmer, and at the same time scars, stretch marks, and discoloration are improved.

How does needling work?
The treatment is based on extremely fine needles that penetrate the epidermis and create microscopic openings in the blood vessels just beneath the skin surface. This leads to the release of growth factors from platelets and activation of the skin’s natural healing mechanisms—without scar formation. Scarring does not occur because the needles used are so fine that the skin remains essentially intact during treatment. Furthermore, studies have shown that the collagen produced during the healing phase is type I collagen (the normal collagen of the skin) rather than type III collagen, which is associated with scar formation.

How is needling performed?
The treatment is carried out with the help of a topical anesthetic cream. A device is then used either in the form of a roller with hundreds of tiny spikes or in the form of a “pen” (dermapen) with 6–12 microscopic needles that move in and out to an adjustable depth depending on the area. The device is applied over the target area in various directions until diffuse redness appears, indicating completion of the session.

Which areas can be treated?
Needling can be applied to the face (forehead, cheeks, eyelids, upper and lower lips), neck, décolletage, arms, abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and generally any area of the body.

What results does it provide?
Needling stimulates collagen and elastin production, skin cell renewal, and new capillary formation. It acts as an anti-aging, rejuvenating, and skin-renewal therapy and specifically:
– reduces acne marks
– improves the appearance of scars
– reduces wrinkle depth and eliminates fine lines
– improves skin elasticity, making it thicker and firmer
– improves discoloration
– improves stretch marks
– helps reduce dilated blood vessels (telangiectasia)

What should I expect after the treatment?
Immediately after treatment, the skin is red and may show pinpoint bleeding, which stops quickly. The micro-injuries heal within 24 hours, while redness may last 12–48 hours depending on treatment depth. No special aftercare is required, but it is recommended to avoid cosmetics and sun exposure for 24–48 hours to prevent irritation. Results become noticeable after 7–10 days and last for several months.

Are there side effects?
Needling is extremely safe and side effects are very rare. As a precaution, the treatment is not recommended in areas with active infection or in individuals with active herpes, to avoid spreading infection. It is also recommended to avoid cosmetics for the first 24 hours, as increased absorption may cause irritation. Sun exposure should be avoided for the first 48 hours.

How many sessions are needed?
Because needling is minimally invasive, repeated sessions are required to achieve optimal results. Typically, 4–6 treatments are recommended every 2–4 weeks, depending on the concern being addressed.

Is any special preparation required before treatment?
No special preparation is required; however, for enhanced results, daily application of a vitamin A & C cream is recommended for two weeks prior to starting treatment to strengthen the skin’s healing capacity.

When can I resume my normal activities?
Return to daily activities is usually immediate. Only avoidance of cosmetics and sun exposure for 24–48 hours is advised. The redness caused by the treatment lasts 12–48 hours but can be covered with make-up.
