Breast enlargement with fat (Autologous fat grafting to the breast)

The breasts are a key feature of the female body, and their size is genetically predetermined. Many women experience psychological distress because their breasts are too small or because there is significant asymmetry between the two breasts. In other cases, the breasts may not have developed normally or may have changed considerably in size and shape after major weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Fat grafting can help address these concerns by increasing breast volume in a natural and long-lasting way.

What is fat transfer?
Autologous fat transfer, also known as fat grafting, can correct size differences between the breasts or increase overall breast volume, significantly improving their appearance.
The procedure involves removing fat cells from areas such as the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, or other parts of the body and reinjecting them beneath the skin of the breasts and around the breast tissue.

How is fat transfer performed?
The donor and recipient areas are disinfected with an antiseptic solution, and local anesthesia is administered. Fat cells are then harvested using a small syringe and a specialized, very fine cannula. The fat is processed to purify it and is subsequently reinjected into the desired area using a small syringe and a fine, atraumatic needle. A slight overcorrection is usually performed, as the survival of the transferred fat depends on multiple factors and can range from 30% to 80%. For this reason, more than one session may be required to achieve the desired result.

What should I expect after surgery?
If a relatively large area is treated, you may need to limit your activities for a few days; however, most patients return to normal activities immediately. Swelling and bruising are common both in the donor area and the treated breast area. Bruising usually resolves within 5–7 days, while swelling typically subsides completely within 2–3 weeks.

What are the advantages of fat transfer?
Fat transfer is an increasingly popular technique. Since the fat comes from your own body, there is no risk of allergic reaction and the procedure is completely safe. Because fat survival varies, multiple sessions may be necessary to achieve the desired outcome. However, the fat that does survive provides a fully natural result and can last for many years. Discomfort is minimal and easily managed with simple painkillers, and downtime from work and social activities is usually very short.
